Moving-Checklist-for-Basic-Move-Inventory

Moving Inventory List is defined as list of all types of items that is used in the business operation and cost that was incurred to carry the goods from purchase place to warehouse. In sole proprietor ship, business is owned by a single person. Similarly in the partnership, two or more persons combined together and do start their business. There are two significant methods of Moving Inventory.

  • FIFO(first in, first out)
  • LIFO (last in, first out)

First in, first out method is used in normal business operations. In this method, items that were purchased earlier, transfers to production place and oldest cost assigned to the sold items. While last in, first out method totally works in an opposite way. An inventory is typically defined as a list of items that is necessary for any business operation or intangibles items held by an organization for resale purpose. Inventory is treated as current asset of an organization. There are two ways to determine the record of inventory. First one is perpetual inventory system, in which company keeps the day to day record of inventory due to high per unit cost. While in periodic inventory system, per unit cost is very low so that inventory is maintained at the end of year. For manufacturing firm, inventory may be of raw material, work in process and finished goods. In service industry, there is no concept of inventory. Goods are produced and sold at the same time.

Benefit of Moving Inventory List

Moving inventory list provides several benefits to the company. It helps to maintain the correct record of all the items and manage the inventory in an efficient way. In this way, company saves us from shortage of material and loss arises due to strikes or other economical factors. Objective of preparing the inventory list is that to keep the record of all the items that is present in the warehouse and there is always a danger of natural disasters so goods can be insured in terms of security view. Producing detailed inventory list is necessary to ensure that every thing should be in an organized way and there is no item missing in the list.

There are some causes of slow moving inventory. The products whose demand is very low, comes under the category of slow moving. The major disadvantage of slow moving inventory is that it increases the storage cost as well as it leads to increase in cost of capital and as a result profit margin reduced. Another cause of slow moving inventory is that some companies do not forecast the demand of their newly developed product and it becomes tricky for the manger to estimate their correct demand. Therefore, such unsold products generate the extra cost that was incurred on their production. When we send out the goods then company bear the additional cost due this its total cost also increasing like as shipping and handling cost. Bill of lading is considered necessary when the goods are sent to abroad. In case of bulky or heavy items, company has to spend extra amount. Always review your stock after regular intervals so that ordering and holding cost could be easily estimated. If any mistake occurs in the calculation process it can also corrected.
